Hello Everybody!
We've all had a bad day haven't we? Some days are just harder to face than others. This is all just part of being human. For most of us a bad day is just that and we move on to a more positive frame of mind. But teens with acne have something harder to face every day: living with a skin condition that affects so many aspects of their lives that for those of us who do not have acne it's hard to imagine coping at all.
The most important thing is that on the bad days you have somewhere to go and somebody to talk to, especially when you may not feel comfortable leaving home to meet with friends because of a bad breakout or just because your self-esteem is very low. Don't allow yourself to become isolated, depressed and anxious. Instead, reach out!
For those who suffer acne breakouts and their emotional impacts a support group can be life-changing and provide you with a sounding board that helps you see that people do understand how you feel. There are just so many ways that acne support groups can be of help to teens.
Members of a support group can act as a shoulder to cry on when you need it the most, visit each day just to chat, share information, or moral support.
Support groups are a way to feel less lonely and to help others feel supported too. Some groups engage in advocacy or use the forum as a public voice. Others offer newsletters, telephone chains, mailing lists and internet forums, like the one we have right here on Teenage-Acne.net. If you haven't joined yet, I would like to extend a warm and friendly welcome to join and participate in our online forum. We are looking forward to meeting you!
Love and Hope
Johanna
