As a skin therapist I always keep up to date with acne treatments for teens. I thought this week it might be interesting to look at the latest acne cures and research. As we all know not all treatments work well, and some of them will cost an arm and a leg! This is why I always tell my patients to stay informed-you never know when a new product might come onto the market that may work for you.
Yes it most certainly can! A study on stress and acne conducted last year by researchers at Wake Forest University School of Medicine found that stress makes teen acne worse. Many had suspected this for years but no conclusive proof existed. The study determined that teens who experienced high stress levels were 23% more likely to have acne that was more severe than their less stressed peers.

We've all had a bad day haven't we? Some days are just harder to face than others. This is all just part of being human. For most of us a bad day is just that and we move on to a more positive frame of mind. But teens with acne have something harder to face every day: living with a skin condition that affects so many aspects of their lives that for those of us who do not have acne it's hard to imagine coping at all.

I recently I met a young man in my practice that had stopped playing football due to his acne breakouts. He was so embarrassed by his bad skin that he'd stopped any activities outside of school and church. "Larry" came to see me, depressed, anxious and desperate about his skin and the impact his acne was having on his social life. He also felt that the skin abrasion that is so much a part of football was aggravating his condition.
